The Ilala District Commissioner (DC) Mr. Ng’wilabuza Ndatwa Ludigija has urged institutions of higher within the Ilala District to emulate Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) in giving back to the community. He made the call while officiating as Chief Guest at the launch of KIUTs Chairman Board of Trustees scholarship scheme where over 100 new 2021/2022 applicants were awarded 50% tuition scholarships for the duration of their programmes.
The Ilala DC expressed his happiness with the infrastructure and human resource developments at the university. “I am proud of this university and will always act as its good ambassador wherever I go”, he added. He emphasized that KIUT is one of those institutions of higher learning that comply with the guidelines of the regulatory authorities and as such deserves to receive support from his office. He called for partnership between the university and Ilala district in the areas of research and consultancy aimed at improving livelihood.
During the ceremony, the Ag Vice Chancellor Prof Severine S Rugumamu explained that the scholarship scheme covers all regions of Tanzania including 169 districts with each expected to receive 50 scholarships. The scholarship will be reviewed after every five years. The prospective and admitted students as well as their parents have been requested to seize this golden opportunity in order to improve quality of people and life in the country.
The KIUT Chairman Board of Trustees’ regional and traditional Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has, over the years, enabled a multitude of learners from vulnerable families to access higher education with the limited and meager resources within their disposal. This time round, the decision to award the 50% scholarship to Tanzanian students has been informed by the sudden devastating economic and unemployment impacts of Covid-19 (corona virus) that hasn’t spared a people around the world.
The DC commended KIUT’s gesture of lending a helping hand to the vulnerable Tanzanian families while indirectly extending services to the people on behalf of the government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Mr Ng’wilabuza called upon the first beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme to help themselves by studying hard and fulfilling their dreams in life. He urged them to always remember their humble backgrounds and conditions of their families because it acts as a springboard for success in life.
The scholarship awarding ceremony was attended by the Ukonga Member of Parliament Hon. Jerry Silaa, KIUT members of management, Staff and students.
