Damu Salama visitation inspires KIUT students to donate 62 units of blood

Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) students and staff demonstrated an extraordinary act of community spirit during a blood donation campaign held in collaboration with Damu Salama Tanzania. The event was organized by the KIUT Student Organization (KIUTSO) Ministry of Health and Gender, and focused on raising awareness about the critical need for blood donations and their life-saving impact. The campaign thrived thanks to the dedicated team that reached out to the KIUT community through social media and direct messaging, and motivated more than 50 students and staff members to participate in the blood drive, showcasing their unwavering commitment to serving the community. It featured an informative session on blood donation, educating participants about its benefits and the safety measures in place to ensure the safety of the donor.

The campaign resulted in the successful collection of 62 units of blood, a significant contribution to Damu Salama Tanzania’s vital blood supply. Under the expert supervision of trained medical professionals, the donation process was conducted in a hygienic and safe environment, ensuring the well-being of all donors. KIUT extended special thanks to Damu Salama Tanzania for their invaluable support and expertise, as well as to the university management for their endorsement of the campaign.

“This blood donation drive is a testament to the power of kindness and the profound impact that community-driven initiatives can have,” said Catherine Massawe, the KIUTSO Minister for Health and Gender. “We are incredibly proud of our students and staff for their generosity and willingness to make a difference,” Added Ms. Massawe.

The successful campaign served as a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of community collaboration and the lasting impact of acts of generosity in building a healthier and more vibrant society.
