On 7thMarch 2025 – During the International Women’s Day celebration at Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT), Ms. Selestine Faraja shared her inspirational story of acceleration from a player in the KIUT netball team to her current position as a finance officer.
She shared her journey as a cleaner at KIUT, even though she was a graduate, struggling to meet ends until an opportunity arose for her. She encouraged women to pursue their dreams despite challenges, emphasizing that giving up is not an option in today’s world even if they have to start from a low place, through hard-work they will reach their goal.
Ms. Faraja recounted her demanding routine saying, “I started in sports as a netball player and worked part-time as part of the KIUT cleaning staff, and training on the university grounds”. As a woman set in her ways, she multi-tasked and pushed her limits.
Her dedication paid off, “I am proud of my journey, my work, and the support I have received from my colleagues at the department, especially the director and deputy director of finance.” she concluded.
Ms. Faraja also played for the national netball team, further cementing her status as a role model. She is an icon of the strength and determination within KIUT to recognize and create enabling environment for women, embodying this year’s IWD theme, “Accelerate Action”.
