Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) volleyball team emerged victorious in the RiseHersports-club tournament, held from March 6th to 8th, 2025, at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) sports grounds. The event brought together six teams from across the region namely; KIUT, Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Makongo Secondary School, Lindi Secondary School, and Korosho Secondary School.
Teams travelled from regions including Mwanza, Tanga, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Pwani, and Dodoma to participate in the one of a kind tournament. The introduction of the “RiseHer Sports Scholarship Program” was the icing on the cake, that is expected to start on January 2026 financing secondary school and university students excelling in both academics and sports.
The tournament featured competition in volleyball, basketball, and netball, with KIUT team competing in volleyball and winning against UDSM and Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy during the final. A short ceremony for victors was held on the final day with KIUT volleyball team receiving the championship trophy and Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy receiving medals as runners-up. During the ceremony, the guest of honor, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, Tanzania’s Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, congratulated the players and encouraged them to excel in both sports and academics.
The RISEHER Club Sports Tournament was not just a competition—it was a celebration of young women’s potential, a movement to inspire them to believe in their abilities, both on the court and in the classroom. With such initiatives, the future looks bright for the young women of Tanzania, who are poised to shine in every aspect of their lives.
