He assumed his position in February 2018. He is a Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering, Former Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology of the University of Dar es Salaam, a senior academic and administrative leader with many years of teaching, research, publishing and supervision of many masters and PhD dissertations. A scholar of international repute, Prof. Katima is a member of a global network linking academics, captains of industry and members of the donor community. In 2007, he is one of the co-winners of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change
The VC is assisted by two Deputy Vice Chancellors, one for Academic Affairs and the other for Finance and Administration.
Severine Rugumamu is a Professor of Political Science. He has experience in managing University functions, having served as Professor of Political Science and Development Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam, Executive Secretary of the African Association of Political Science, visiting Professor at Universities in USA, Consultant to UN Agencies, and a Special Advisor to the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Abanis Turyahebwa is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance. He is a member of ACCA, and a Certified Forensic Investigation Professional (CFIP). He is experienced in University leadership and management having been a Head of Department of Business and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management, a Chief Accountant and having previously served as Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs for Kampala International University in Tanzania for five years.
