Omary Bure joins Rwanda’s East African University VC
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — Former Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) volleyball standout Omary Bure Hassan has officially taken his talents elsewhere, signing with East African University VC in Rwanda.
Omary’s journey in volleyball picked up momentum in 2022 when he joined KIUT. In a short term, due to his drive, discipline, and competitive mindset, Omary quickly became the cornerstone of KIUT men’s volleyball team. His presence on the court served as a source of inspiration and unity among his teammates, evident for all to see.
“Omary was a charming guy and a great key to our team with no bias,” said teammate Emmanuel Kiweru. Mercy, speaking on behalf of the KIUT women’s team, echoed the sentiment: “He was a brother, a friend, and a motivator”
Omary’s success reflects the broader mission of KIUT’s sports programs which is to develop not just athletes, but leaders who become ambassadors of the sport wherever they go. Through local and international tournaments, the university offers a platform for student-athletes to gain exposure, and take bold steps toward professional opportunities.
“Omary’s journey is a proud moment for the KIUT community,” said a university spokesperson. “It shows how far talent and hard-work can go, when nurtured well”
As Omary continues his volleyball career with East African University VC, he carries with him lessons, and passion in the game that was instilled while he was at KIUT.
From KIUT courts to a bigger stage—congratulations, Omary. KIUT is proud to have been part of the beginning of your journey.
