Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) lionesses were crowned champions of the 2025 Higher Learning Samia Cup Tournament, a dynamic inter-university football competition that brought together top university teams from across Dar es Salaam. The tournament, known for its fierce competition and unifying spirit, delivered unforgettable moments.
From the very first whistle, the atmosphere was electric. KIUT fans turned out in force, creating a sea of university colors, rhythmic chants, and unwavering support that echoed throughout every match. Beyond the pitch, the tournament rekindled camaraderie among students from all the region.
The women’s final, held at the lively KMC Stadium, saw the KIUT Lionesses face off against the formidable team from the National Institute of Transport (NIT). In a hard-fought battle marked by resilience, and tactical brilliance, it was striker Majah Ibrahim who broke the deadlock, securing a 1–0 victory and crowning KIUT the 2025 Samia Cup Women’s Champions.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, KIUT team delivered a gripping performance in a nail-biting showdown where they fell just short in a 2–3 defeat. KIUT men’s Coach Mr. Marius remained proud of his squad, stating, “It was a fair game. The result wasn’t what we hoped for, but our boys were prepared and performed well. The opponent capitalized on a small error, these things happen in football. I’m proud of my players.”
Among the sea of emotion-charged fans was KIUT’s passionate supporter, Agape, who couldn’t hide her joy: “I’m so happy to see our ladies take the win, the match was unforgettable! And our boys wow, what a performance! It’s inspiring to see how hard they fought.”
More than just a sporting event, the Samia Cup 2025 was a powerful celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and the growing sports culture within Tanzanian universities.
