The volleyball teams from Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) encountered a rocky start in their opening matches of the DAREVA League, held on March 15th at the KIUT sports ground.The DAREVA League, featuring 29 teams from across Dar es Salaam, officially commenced at KIUT sports grounds on Saturday 15th, 2025. The guest of honour, Hon. Jerry Silaa, Minister of ICT, was represented by Mr. Juma Mizungu, chairperson of the Youth Union CCM Ilala District, who expressed his support of DAREVA.
In a highly anticipated derby, KIUT men’s team faced Jeshi Stars in marking a bad start for the host in DAREVA. Despite the team’s energy,KIUT fell short, losing all three sets (3-0). The host coach, Mr. Saidi, praised his players for their effort on the court, acknowledging that the opponents exploited weaknesses and KIUT team will improve. This was seconded by Emmanuel Kiwelu, one of the players, remarked that, “This tournament is tough, but we are among the best team here.” We must focus on improving our player-output and sharpen technique to enhance our performance”.
