Gongo la Mboto, Dar es Salaam –During a one-of-a kind tournament, KIUT sports ground became lively with more than just the sound of whistles and the thud of running feet, it was that season of the year where the best faculty took the prize. For two memorable weeks, the campus transformed into a vibrant arena of fierce but friendly competition during the much-anticipated Kampala International University in Tanzania Students’ Organization (KIUTSO) Interfaculty Competition 2025 Tournament.
Organized under the theme “Unity Through Sports,” the tournament brought together students and staff from all faculties — Medicine & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Education & Legal Studies, Allied Health Sciences, and Computing, Management, & Social Science — to compete in football, basketball, volleyball, netball, kabaddi, chess, athletics, draft, pool and others more. Even the staff football team joined in, lacing up their boots for a spirited advancement to the finals without losing a single match nor winning by penalty shootouts.
The tournament was about more than scores and trophies. It was about connection. “Today, I saw the true meaning of KIUT,” said a netball player after a tough match. “We are not just students in different buildings — we are one family. And this is what family looks like.”
The football field roared with energy as students from multiple majors clashed with one another, trading both goals and good-natured banter. Meanwhile, the main hall buzzed with mental battles over pool and board games, where every win sparked cheers and every loss ended with laughter and the familiar promise: “We will bounce-back and beat you in the next tournament.”
This year’s Interfaculty Tournament has proven once again that to excel at KIUT is not just about excellence in academics — it is about building bridges, discovering shared passions, and celebrating diversity under one university banner. Throughout the week, barriers broke as students from different faculties were now sharing time in the court, high-fives for good sportsmanship, and victory chants. The KIUT sports grounds, decked with faculty banners, became a canvas of unity, painted in sweat, spirit, and sunshine. As the final whistles blew and trophies were handed out, one thing was clear, we are all part of the KIUT community.
