The Tanzania Fellowship of Evangelical Students of Kampala International University in Tanzania (TAFES-KIUT) celebrated their member, Gloria Hatson Mufumya, a 4th Year Medical Laboratory Sciences student for her achievement of being awarded the best female leader of the Tanzania Medical Laboratory Students Association (TAMELASA). She received the award during a TAMELASA conference, conducted at the Ruaha Catholic University in Iringa from 21st to 23rd of September 2020.

The event was primarily aimed at bringing together TAMELASA members from different universities across the nation to discuss the role of the medical laboratory profession in improving delivery of quality health care services in Tanzania. It included an awards ceremony to recognize members who made crucial contributions to the association. Two out of the five awarded members come from KIUT. Haji A. Liputi was the other student from KIUT who got an award at the event.

Upon her return from the scientific conference in Iringa, Gloria expressed humility and gratitude for receiving the award that came as a surprise. She gave thanks to TAFES-KIUT for taking a chance on her by entrusting her with the Social and Hospitality department that required close interaction with people. The role, together with periodic leadership training and sermons, admittedly made her execute her duties well since they were in reference to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Gloria applied her biblical teachings on leadership in other areas, including her tenure at TAMELASA, and through the grace of God, she was able to be part of major projects conducted by the association, which incorporated the Hepatitis B Vaccination and Sickle Cell tests that took place, respectively at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital and Minaki Secondary School on different dates. She served as the general secretary in TAMELASA’s Eastern Zone that encapsulates Dar es Salaam, Coast and Zanzibar.

Gloria urgesother young Christian women to realize that they have great potential inside them and are wonderfully made by God himself, crowned with glory and honour. She encourages them to shed their fears and take chances in leadership positions and be of service to the community at large.

Moreover, Gloria expressed her gratitude to God for her achievements, and to  TAMELASA members for their maximum cooperation during her tenure as the general secretary. She also extended her appreciation to the University (KIUT) for the welcoming and enabling environment to study and discover her God-given talents and potentials.
