The Tanzania Fellowship of Evangelical Students (TAFES) is part of a global student movement aimed to spread the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through universities and colleges in Tanzania, irrespective of national and/or interdenominational affiliations.
The origins of TAFES began from 1947 when the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) was formed to reach the masses through students in colleges and university. After years of operations and successful reach, giving birth to Christian revival in Europe, America, China, India and Africa, in the 1950s, the Pan-Africa Fellowship of Evangelical Students (PAFES) was formed to focus the faith movement in Africa where in 1973, the Fellowship of Christian Unions (FOCUS) was formed to coordinate operations in East Africa. During these years, FOCUS coordinated Christian fellowships and pertaining activities at the University of East Africa, which are now called the University of Dar es Salaam, Makerere University and Nairobi University after the East African Community dissolved.
The Unfortunate dissolution of the East African Community caused operational difficulties for FOCUS and shortly after agreed to split to form independent fellowship associations in the respective countries where in Tanzania it was named the Tanzania Fellowship of Evangelical Students (TAFES).
TAFES is currently operating in eight (8) regions in Tanzania namely; Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Dodoma, Arusha, Morogoro, Mbeya, Iringa and Kilimanjaro, spreading the world of the Lord Jesus Christ through colleges and universities with Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) being one of them.
At first the United Faith Christian Student Fellowship existedand was established on the 20thof December 2010, under the umbrella of the United Faith Chapel from KIU’smain campus in Uganda. It had 16 members on the first day of the fellowship. However, a year later, December 2011, the United Faith Christian Student Fellowship affiliated with TAFES to form TAFES-KIU due to the university at time being a constituent college of KIU Uganda. At this moment,TAFES-KIU had more than 40 student members. On 2018 the campus changed its name from TAFES-KIU to TAFES-KIUT after the university became a full-fledged university to be called Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT).
To Equip University and College students with the Scripture in Evangelism, Discipleship and Leadership Development thereby transforming the Campus, Church and the Society.
To be a national movement reaching every student in all Universities and Colleges in Tanzania with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
TAFES-KIUT conducts outreach activities where the team visits various places across the country to preach the Word and Love of God to the masses for spiritual healing, guidance and addition to the Christian family. By the Grace of God,the fellowship has conducted three successful gospel outreaches through seminars in interior areas where the Gospel has not yet being preached, with the first outreach being done at Mbuyuni village in Masasi, Mtwara, followed by Mwakijembe village in Tanga and last year at Haubi village in Kondoa district, Dodoma. Mission outreach is done to fulfill God’s commandment, through Jesus Christ, to preach the gospel to all nations as written in Matthew 28:19-20, which states:
“19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We humbly thank God for the three successful missions that witnessed more than one thousand (1,000) people giving their lives to Jesus Christ and continue to pray for his guidance towards other missions.
This is the Praise and Worship overnight service, conducted every June of the year and by the Grace of God, the service brings together more than 1,300 students from different university and college campuses, including KIUT’s from all over Dar Es salaam region to Praise and worship God Almighty. The gathering has witnessed many people giving their lives to Christ and exploring their natural, God-given talents.
These are gatherings conducted in separate dates where fellow students from other university and college campuses come together to learn about matters pertaining to the faith from the beginning. Till date, TAFES-KIUT has the highest number of attendees in these events, which has been acknowledged and appreciated through gifts and encouragement within the fellowship. The Conferences include; Go Conference, Discipleship Training Seminar (DTS), Bible Expository Self-Training Program(BESTP), and Prayer Camp. Some of these conferences such as the Discipleship Training Seminar (DTS) features sports and games where we, TAFES-KIUT, won a Netball Cup in a sports tournament.
This is spreading the Word of God within the KIUT’s university campus, something we have being able to do inside the campus, reaching every student with the Gospel of Christ.
The leadership of the 2019/20 TAFES KIUT ICT Department would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the Heavenly Father for his faithfulness throughout their tenure for they observed the hand of God working within the entire team. We experienced a good and hard-working team, ready to share their knowledge and gifts to helping one another. Here are some testimonies from the ICT Department to show gratitude and appreciation to all supporters during their tenure.
TAFES-KIUT advocates the practice of excellence and integrity, aiming to ensure that student members perform well academically and are spiritually nurtured to emulate Jesus Christ as their role model. Through these virtues, students become people who work hard and honor God in their endeavors after graduating.
With this, we are extremely happy for JULIETH MKONDYA LASON, a 2019 Diploma Graduate in Medical Laboratory Sciences with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.6. She also left a legacy of scoring a GPA of 5 in her last semester NACTE exams.
Commenting on her achievements, Julieth owes her success to her trust in God, studying hard and smart, together with being organized, especially with time. She also mentioned her mother as a huge influencer during her academic journey.
Sister Huruma Tete, former TAFES KIUT Vice Chairperson expressed delight to Julieth’s performance. “I congratulate Julieth’s outstanding results, seeing her excel in her academics field. Glory to God for the grace he has given her,” Huruma commented. She further emphasized continuing students that nothing is impossible when your mind is focused, while knowing and acknowledging the grace of God in our life.
Brother Elifaraja Makala, former Academic Coordinator, shared similar sentiments by stating that appreciation is a wonderful thing, making what is excellent in others belong to us all. As the academic coordinator he thanked sister Julieth for her excellent show of academic performance, especially in her last academic year. Her strength and trust in God reflect TAFES-KIUT’s 2019/20 theme “With God’s strength, I will stand in my position shining His Light. Matthew 5:16”
Congratulations, Julieth | We love you.
“….SEEKME AND LIVE” Amos 5:4
Greetings to all in Jesus mighty name, we are thankful to our Mighty Almighty Father in the heaven for His grace, faithfulness and unfailing love toward us.
God has graciously given us a theme for 2020/21 from the book of Amos 5:4
Here is the exposition
Amos5:4 – For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live;
Amos5:5 – But do not seek Bethel, nor enter Gilgal, nor pass over to Beersheba; For Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, And Bethel shall come to nothing.
First of this entire chapter Prophet Amos is talking about repentance
Repentance means realizing and regretting wrong deeds with commitments of change for the better.
This means people of Israel had gone astray and now God through his prophet Amos is coming and tell them about their wrong doings and that they should turn back
In verse 4
Amos5:4 – For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live;
Why is GOD saying all this, see verse 5
Amos5:5 – But do not seek Bethel, nor enter Gilgal, nor pass over to Beersheba; For Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, And Bethel shall come to nothing.
God is saying“….don’t seek Bethel don’t seek for Gilgal”
Let’s then see what took these people there before.
Gilgal a place where Joshua had circumcised most of Israel
So these people they started to worship this place rather than worshipping God, then Amos told them seek the lord and stop worshipping those other things. God wanted them to obey him in full
And whenyou seek me you shall live.
Even so today, us we want to leave away all the things which seems to consume our time to know God, we are turning back and to search for him earnestly.
Then why do we have to seek him? Is the question you should be asking in your mind…
The Bible says in the book of Acts.17:28 – “For in Him we live and move and have our being”as also some of your own poets have said, “for we are also His offspring.”
How can we seek God?
By reading the Bible and understanding His principles.
Therefore our theme this year is “seek me and live;
As leaders, we desire all people to know the will of God in their lives and live it and not conform to the standard of this world, as Bible says in Roman 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
KJV
But also when we seek God all things we are in need will be added to our life, this is according to Bible in Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
KJV
After seeking God, we believe all things concerning us will follow
John 10:10
Amen
Shalom, As TAFES KIUT leaders of this year 2021/2022 God has given us the theme which will be our main focus for as leaders and as fellowship at large.
Our theme of this year 2021/2021 is ” Knowing God, Trust Him and Live in Him “. The main scripture in which this theme is driven from is Psalms 20:7 which says “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God (NIV)” we thank God for this theme which is an emphasize for us to invest our time, efforts and resources in the knowledge of God, to put our trust in Him and His promises from His words and by doing these we will have Life in Him.
As TAFES our Vision is reaching students and transforming lives and even our Lord Jesus gave us the great commission in Matt.28.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..(NIV) which simply insist us to go out and reach other people with the message of Jesus Christ (The Gospel).
Our theme of this year prepares us to fulfill both our Vision as TAFES and the Great Commission from our Lord Jesus as it is written in the Holly Scriptures.
We believe that our theme will will shape us to what God desires and we will be a reason of transformation in our fellowship and our our campus.
