About Us

The Tanzania Medical Laboratory Students’ Association (TAMELASA), established on 14th  January 2009 is a nationally run Non-Profit Organisation (NGO) comprising of medical laboratory students from various medical schools across Tanzania.

TAMELASA formally established an arm at Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) on 20th September 2014. Since its establishment, TAMELASA-KIUT has managed to engage in the following activities:

  • Visit the National Health Laboratory, Dar es Salaam.
  • Participate in the Malaria screening event (World Malaria Day 2018) in Chanika, Dar es Salaam.
  • Preparing and coordinating blood donation events in the University grounds.
  • Participate in World HIV Day events.
  • Participate in World Hepatitis Day events.
  • Prepare and oversee the first Graduation ceremony, including certification for members.

Our members are passionate with medicine and making positive changes in our society and global community at large.

Vision

To spearhead and advocate best practices of the Medical Laboratory Science profession and national health services in Tanzania to the global landscape.

Mission

To bring inspiration, innovation and motivation to research studies to all medical laboratory students at Kampala International University in Tanzania, to create opportunities for professional development and acts as representative voice for all Tanzanian Medical Laboratory students and generating positive wave of change in Tanzania.

To help medical laboratory students in Tanzania to acquire good knowledge pertaining to the field of profession and to use the acquired knowledge for the best diagnosis of different diseases affecting our people.

Aims and Objectives

  1. To encompass our four (4)Pillars; Student Representation, Outreach, Collaboration and Professional Development.
  2. To establish Students Forum to discuss and find solutions on challenges facing health Laboratory services.
  3. To promote health laboratory standards, accreditation and professional ethics among the students.
  4. To facilitate means of communication among medical laboratory students regionally and internationally.
  5. To motivate students to participate in researches, exchange of ideas, international correspondence and publication of news of medical laboratory interest.
  6. To work hand in hand with other Medical Laboratory Associations in Tanzania, the Government and Non-Governmental organizations, local and international involved in medical laboratory services in Tanzania and elsewhere in Africa and the world without racial, social and gender discrimination.
  7. To collaborate with other Medical Laboratory Students Associations elsewhere in the world in matters pertaining to the professional of medical laboratory technology by attending symposia and scientific meetings held inside and outside Tanzania.
  8. To advice the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Ministry responsible for Higher learning on matters pertaining to training of Health Laboratory sciences.
  9. To create mutual understanding and cooperation between laboratory workers and other health professionals working in the interest of individual and public health.
  10. To do all such other things or activities that may be conductive in promoting the attainment of all or any of the aims and objectives of the Association.

Membership

  1. Only medical laboratory students of all levels are eligible for the application of TAMELASA membership whereby the student shall fill the registration form for the membership and shall be given the membership identity card.
