Dar es Salaam Zone’s Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students’ Association(TAPSA) leaders meet at KIUT

TAPSA student leaders from six chapters met with the organization’s President at Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT), in Gongola Mboto, Dar es Salaam. The meeting brought together chairpersons from the Dar es Salaam zone, representing Paradigm Institute, City College Ilala, City College HQ, Muhimbili School of Pharmacy, Santa Maria Institute, and KIUT.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Saad Sengiyumva, TAPSA President and current student at KIUT.He opened the meeting by speaking on thepower of effective communication in leadership. In his remarks, he said, “I had prepared for this day with great care,listened intently to each leader’s experience, hearing their challenges and concerns. Some of you sought guidance on best ways to increase student engagement while other leaders had issues seeking help. As I was offering take on what troubled some leaders, I could see their minds light up, recognizing the value of clear and opencommunication in their roles”.

The meeting’s main objective was ironing out differences, encouraging open communication and reminding leaders on their important role in transforming TAPSA starting at their respective chapters and on engaging stakeholders in building an active and impactful organization. TAPSA continues to build a network of empowered student leaders, ready to make a difference in Tanzania’s pharmaceutical education landscape. Evidently, among invited guests was Filsan Ally, KIUT alumni turned staff member at City College, who offered insight on effective leadership traits.

The Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students Association (TAPSA) is an independent, non-profit organization uniting pharmacy students across Tanzania, both Mainland and Zanzibar. It promotes education, advocates for student rights, collaborates with health authorities and organizations, and raises awareness about responsible medicine use and antimicrobial resistance.
