KIUT Social Work Association at the Temeke International Women’s Day Forum

The Social Work Association of KIUT proudly stood alongside the Temeke Municipal Council and the wider Dar es Salaam community to champion the cause of gender equity and social welfare. This engagement took place on Friday, 06 March 2026, as part of the vibrant International Women’s Day celebrations hosted in the district. For our association, this gathering was more than a commemorative event; it was a vital opportunity to translate core social work values into direct community action under the theme: "Empowering Women, Strengthening Communities."
As future social work professionals, we recognize that gender equality is the cornerstone of a resilient society. Our participation in the Temeke festivities was driven by the principle of Social Justice, ensuring that the voices of women particularly those in vulnerable positions are heard and amplified through the following pillars:
Empowerment through Experience: We engaged in dialogue with local leaders to bridge the gap between policy and practice. By sharing the successes and challenges of women in leadership, we helped identify the systemic barriers that social workers strive to dismantle.
Preventative Advocacy & Education: Our association led awareness initiatives focused on the "Girl Child." By advocating for education and health rights, we addressed the root causes of inequality before they manifest into long-term social issues.
Economic & Social Stability: We supported the promotion of resources that provide women with tangible stability. In social work, we know that economic independence is often the first step toward escaping cycles of vulnerability.
The event in Temeke served as a field-based reminder that sustainable development is impossible without the inclusion of women. The KIUT Social Work Association remains dedicated to fostering environments where women and girls are not just participants, but leaders of change.
By aligning our academic mission with the municipal goals of Temeke, we reaffirm our dedication to the Global Social Work Ethics, working to ensure that the spirit of progress seen during this celebration becomes a permanent reality for every household in Tanzania.
