Tanzania Prisons, KIUT crowned TVNL Champions

Tanzania Prisons women’s team and Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) men’s side emerged as champions of the Tanzania Volleyball National League (TVNL) after thrilling finals at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam. The women’s final saw defending champions Tanzania Prisons prove their dominance once again, defeating Bandari 3–1 in an electrifying clash. Prisons, who have now established themselves as a powerhouse in women’s volleyball, were awarded gold medals, a glittering trophy, and a cash prize of TZS 5 million. Bandari secured silver medals, while KIUT women’s team settled for third place. The men’s category produced another exciting encounter as KIUT powered past Jeshi Stars with a 3–1 victory. The win marked KIUT’s rise as a formidable force in Tanzanian volleyball. Jeshi Stars, despite their fighting spirit, had to settle for silver, while last year’s champions Tanzania Prisons finished third. Tanzania Prisons head coach Fredy Mshangama credited his team’s determination and experience for their ability to defend the title despite facing injury challenges. “We thank God for enabling us to retain our trophy. Even though we had many injuries, our experience carried us through. On the men’s side, we lost the crown, but we are going back to regroup and fight to reclaim it next year,” said Mshangama. Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) President, Eng. Magoti Mtani, applauded the players, coaches, and organizers for a competitive season that highlighted the growing popularity of the sport in the country. “I would like to congratulate all the winners and participants for their efforts. This league continues to showcase the progress of volleyball in Tanzania. We look forward to seeing you again in October for the Nyerere Cup,” he said. The finals drew a large and energetic crowd at Mwembe Yanga grounds, underscoring the league’s rising profile as a key platform for nurturing volleyball talent in Tanzania.
