KIUT Rotaract Champions Community Wellness at Kerege

The Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) community recently reached a significant milestone in its mission to serve the public. On 12th April 2026, the Rotaract Club of KIUT, in a dedicated partnership with the Rotary Club of Oysterbay, hosted a successful medical outreach program at Kerege Primary School. Operating under the inspiring motto “Mtoto ni Afya” (A Child is Health), the event focused on the vital role children’s health plays in building a thriving, resilient community.
The Kerege Medical Camp was designed with a clear purpose: to bridge the gap in healthcare access for underserved populations. By bringing free medical services directly to the people, the organizers aimed to not only treat immediate ailments but also to foster a culture of preventive care. For our Rotaract members, it was a profound opportunity to exercise social responsibility and engage deeply with the local community.
The success of the camp was driven by the tireless efforts of 30 volunteers from the Rotaract Club of KIUT. This multidisciplinary team comprising medical students, healthcare professionals, and dedicated support staff worked in seamless coordination to provide a range of services:
Medical Consultations: Professional advice for a variety of health concerns.
Diagnostic Screenings: Basic tests to identify underlying health issues early.
Pharmacy Services: On-site distribution of essential medications.
Pediatric Care: Specialized assessments tailored specifically to the needs of children.
Health Education: Counseling sessions focused on nutrition, hygiene, and healthy living.
The response from the Kerege community was overwhelming. With beneficiaries ranging from women, the elderly, and many children, who received high-quality care free of charge. Beyond the numbers, the camp strengthened the bond between KIUT and its neighbors, proving that when students and professionals unite, the impact on public health is transformative.
The Kerege Medical Camp stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared vision of a healthier Tanzania. It is a proud moment for the KIUT family and a blueprint for future community service initiatives.
